FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 4, 2025
Union County, IL – Small businessman and former radio host Scott Doody (R-Anna) is officially announcing his candidacy for the open seat in the 118th House District.
As a life-long resident of Union County, Doody is a father, grandfather, and businessman and brings decades of real-world experience and strong work ethic to the people of deep Southern Illinois.
“I know the challenges our communities face because I’ve lived those same challenges right here in Southern Illinois for 62 years,” said Doody. “I’m running to be a strong voice for our people, to fight for our values, and to work every day to improve the quality of life in our region. I will make only two promises: tell the truth to my constituents and work hard for their needs.”
Doody has spent much of his career working in private security throughout Southern Illinois and the Midwest, providing him with unique insight into public safety, accountability, and leadership. He currently operates a classic car restoration business and is very active in local media production.
Scott has been a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and is firmly Pro-Life, promising to stand for the values and principles that matter most to the families in the district.
As your state representative, Scott Doody pledges to:
• Fight for the elimination of property taxes for seniors, ensuring older residents can remain in their homes without fear of being taxed out.
• Promote tourism and the film industry in Southern Illinois, highlighting the natural beauty, culture, and resources of the region to bring in new economic growth.
• Re-purpose the former Tamms Prison, bringing jobs and opportunity back to an important regional facility.
Scott Doody’s campaign will focus on restoring trust in state government while ensuring Southern Illinois has a strong, unapologetic conservative advocate in Springfield. The 118th House District takes in all of Alexander, Pulaski, Union and portions of Jackson & Williamson Counties. Major communities in the district are Anna-Jonesboro, Carbondale, Cairo, Carterville, Herrin, Marion, and Mound City.
